The CS-500 provides a small portable coring rig that can be used for either conventional wireline diamond coring or sample collection both on land or on a barge in shallow lake or marine environments. The CS-500 drilled holes for the installation of instrument packages for the CALIPSO project on the island of Montserrat as well as used for lake sediment collection from Englebright Reservoir in California and from three Icelandic Lakes.
The system has a coring has a coring capability of up to 200 m using either P-size diamond coring or the DOSECC Lake System (DLS) suite of sampling tools. It can collect up to 300 m of HQ-size core. In its lake coring mode, the drill rig can be positioned on a modular barge that is 40 feet by 20 feet wide (GLAD200 System), see photo below right). The drill rig can be transported using a number of different methods including pickup truck, ATVs, helicopter or Cessna 206, allowing it to be deployed on small drilling locations.
